Senior Safety Technician

The Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) team at MD Anderson Cancer Center designs and evaluates health and safety programs that will maintain and enhance health, improve safety and increase productivity. The OHS team is multidisciplinary, including ergonomists, certified industrial hygienists, certified safety specialists, mold consultants and asbestos project managers. We provide regulatory interpretations, technical assistance and recommendations to occupational health and safety programs. The primary purpose of this position is to ensure full environmental compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations governing hazardous materials, regulated medical waste, and universal waste. This role oversees proper handling, storage, documentation, and disposal practices to maintain a safe, compliant, and environmentally responsible operation.

The salary range for this position is $47,000 - $58,500.00 - $70,000.00

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Conducts emergency preparedness and response activities.
• Performs inspections on assigned fire safety equipment and carries out and conducts waste management, environmental protection, lab safety, occupational health and safety, fire and life safety operations and regulatory compliance activities associated with institutional waste and recycling programs.
• Maintain waste management storage areas in accordance with local/state/federal regulations.
• Ensures adequate supply inventories for emergency response. Promotes safe work environments.
• Manages waste management or pollution prevention programs, including but not limited to medical waste, silver recovery, supply management, vehicle maintenance, universal waste, and recycling.
• Performs daily, weekly, and monthly inspections of assigned safety equipment. Attends safety meetings assigned; performs dues associate Sorts and delivers radiation safety badges to departments at Performs various research laboratory safety inspections, files.

Performs various industrial hygiene services such as accident Provides safety training as assigned.

Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent

Preferred: Bachelor's Level degree and a fire protection or safety related field.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required: 3 years Experience in environmental, health and/or safety programs.

Preferred: Chemical characterization, customer service, and logistics/transportation of hazardous material

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
  • Required: TDL - Texas Drivers License Class A, B or C valid Texas drivers license depending on the type and weight of vehicle to be operated and number of passengers to be carried and eligible to drive State and institutional vehicles. Upon Hire
