Medical Imaging Technologist / Clinical Research Imaging

The Medical Imaging Technologist (MIT) supports both clinical and research initiatives by performing advanced diagnostic imaging procedures and investigational radiopharmaceutical therapies. This role requires multimodality expertise, independent decision-making, technical excellence, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams across MRI, CT, Nuclear Medicine, PET/CT, and/or PET/MRI.

The MIT will support innovative imaging environments, including the Advanced MRI Imaging Facility, Center for Advanced Biomedical Imaging, BrainSuite, and iMRI suites-while ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality, and patient-centered care.

Shift / Hours:Monday - Friday / 8 am - 4:30 pm

The ideal candidate will have three years of experience in CT or MRI.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical & Technical Expertise
  • Perform high-quality imaging exams across designated modalities in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary clinical environment.
  • Apply expert knowledge of standard-of-care and research imaging protocols.
  • Ensure accurate positioning, annotation, imaging parameters, and radiation safety practices.
  • Interpret cross-sectional anatomy to ensure appropriate diagnostic outcomes.
  • Operate imaging systems independently and collaborate to resolve technical issues.

Research & Innovation
  • Support advanced imaging technologies and facilities.
  • Assist with protocol design, optimization, and implementation for clinical and research use.
  • Develop multimodality imaging protocols when needed.
  • Accurately document imaging data in EPIC, RADIANT, EMR, Biodose, and other systems.

Education & Collaboration
  • Train students, technologists, faculty, nurses, and research personnel.
  • Deliver educational content on topics such as:
    • Advanced brain tumor imaging
    • Prostate & GYN imaging
    • Breast imaging
    • fMRI
    • Interventional MRI
    • Diagnostic and therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals in Nuclear Medicine and PET
    • PET/MR advancements

Operational Excellence
  • Maintain productivity and quality benchmarks.
  • Communicate effectively with clinical, nursing, physics, engineering, and research teams.
  • Participate in continuing education and required internal/external training.
  • Support patient care with professionalism, accuracy, and empathy.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

EDUCATION
  • Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent and
  • Required: Graduation from an AMA-approved school of x-ray technology.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's Degree Science.

WORK EXPERIENCE
  • Required: 3 years Relevant experience including one year in the operation of relevant radiological equipment.
  • Preferred: Experience gained at The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, including two years in the operation of a relevant modality.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must acquire required continuing education credits per year as dictated by the Division of Diagnostic Imaging and the Texas Medical Board (TMB).
