Assistant Research Coordinator Genomic Medicine

The Assistant Research Coordinator performs lab support related to the operation of research projects.

The ideal candidate will be highly organized, proactive, and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage and support multiple research activities in a fast-paced environment. This individual works collaboratively with research staff, demonstrates strong administrative and organizational skills, and contributes meaningfully to the efficient and successful execution of research operations.

As part of the new, ambitious Therapeutics Data Science initiative at MDACC, we are developing an innovative AI-augmented, Adaptive, Drug Discovery and Development (A3D3a) computational Platform to accelerate the discovery and impact of novel therapies for cancer. The Platform will enable novel opportunities for optimized therapies for patients, with a focus on rare and hard-to-treat cancers, through the development of novel machine learning and AI technologies. The A3D3a team is highly multidisciplinary, with members spanning computational biology, chemistry, data science, and computer science.

Led by Prof. Bissan Al-Lazikani, Director of Therapeutics Data Science, the intelligent and ever-learning A3D3a platform is part of MD Anderson's Therapeutics Data Science initiative and part of our ambitious Institute for Data Science in Oncology. A3D3a will accelerate the discovery and impact of novel therapies for cancer by enabling novel opportunities for optimized therapies for patients with a focus on rare and hard-to-treat cancers through the development of novel machine learning and AI technologies.

KEY FUNCTIONS:
* Provides routine operational support for research projects.
* Provides comprehensive support to faculty and laboratory personnel.
* Maintains day-to-day activity for faculty and lab personnel, ensuring accurate scheduling and project coordination.
* Drafts and prepare presentation materials for meetings, conferences, and research events.
* Records, prepares, and distributes various levels of communication to PI and lab personnel in a timely manner, involving formal and informal memos and reports.
* Maintains and updates faculty CVs and NIH Biosketches.
* Assist the Sr. Technical Writer and Grant Manager by ensuring timely and accurate submission of required documentation for manuscripts, publications, and grant submissions.
* Obtains required signatures from PI and lab members and routes documents to appropriate institutional departments as needed.
* Assists the Program Manager with processing internal and external requests and research-related paperwork.
* Supports the completion of executed documents for publications, conflict of interest disclosures (COIs), and material transfer agreements (MTAs).
* Processes faculty extramural leave requests and PTO balances using Web Schedule.
* Coordinate and prepare domestic and international travel arrangements for the PI to completion.
* Schedules, coordinate, and participate in site visits in accordance with lab needs.
* Assists with lab purchasing by submitting and tracking requests through Quartzy and ensures receipt of packages are accounted for in the lab.
* Supports staff recruitment, onboarding, training activities, and coordination of schedules for graduate students and visiting fellows.
* Ensures compliance with institutional policies and procedures.

EDUCATION:
Required: Bachelor's degree.
Preferred: Bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE:
Required: None. May substitute required education degree with four years of related experience.
Preferred: Experience supporting faculty, managing purchasing processes, working with vendors, and coordinating travel arrangements is strongly preferred.
