Data Management and Computational Research Support
A Research Intern position is available in the department of Genetics. The Research Intern will support research operations and data management for ongoing cancer biology projects, with a focus on organizing, tracking, and analyzing research-related datasets.
The Trakala Laboratory in the department of Genetics at UT MD Anderson Cancer Center studies how chromosomal instability and aneuploidy shape tumor evolution, immune surveillance, and therapeutic response.
All duties and responsibilities are carried out in compliance with institutional policies, ethical research standards, and applicable federal and state regulations.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
The intern will learn data management, including but not limited to data collection, data organization, quality control, inventory and sample tracking, HPC cluster-based analysis, and computational pipelines for spatial and single-cell transcriptomics. The intern will gain exposure to how large-scale biological datasets are generated, organized, and analyzed in an academic cancer research laboratory. Expected outcomes include improved skills in structured data handling, documentation, research workflow organization, and communication with scientific and administrative team members.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants should be recent graduates with experience or interest in data organization, management, coding, or computational analysis. Experience with, RStudio, SQL, or related data management tools is preferred. Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and willingness to learn biomedical research workflows are required.
